A Graphic Designer is a person who uses computer technology to design visual communications of a businesses information. They develop the overall layout and production design for advertisements, brochures, magazines, and corporate reports, as well as websites, game characters and more.

Introduction

This 2 year course is aimed at a learner who has passed Matric with the minimum requirements for acceptance into a Diploma Programme, and is looking to be an innovative and artistic Graphic Design professional. Students will learn all of the necessary skills to create, represent and market a brand digitally. This Diploma would qualify the student for jobs such as Material Designer or Web Designer. *

002 History of Design The aim of this module is to introduce learners to the history of design concepts, famous designers and classic design techniques.
003 Design Programmes The aim of this module is to introduce learners to the everyday computer programmes used by graphic designers
004 Visual Communication The aim of this module is to introduce learners to techniques that help you generate meaning to images without the use of words
005 Marketing The aim of this module is to introduce learners to basic concepts of marketing, understanding a businesses needs, brands and target markets
006 Graphic Generation This module will enable the learner to generate designs that meet the requirements legally, ethically and logistically for print or digital design work.
007 Business Skills This module will give the learners an understanding of types of businesses, entrepreneurship, organisational procedures and business plans specific to the graphic design industry.
008 Typography This module teaches students about font and typeface, which type can be manipulated to create a pleasing layout, including tracking, kerning, leading and point size
009 2D Art This module aims to teach learners how to effectively design for 2D artwork
010 3D Art This module aims to teach learners to effectively design for 3D artwork
011 Digital Video Design This module aims to teach learners how to use software to create short audio video trailers or adverts
012 Web Design This module aims to teach learners basic HTML and CSS, to create basic web pages or use template websites such as Wordpress effectively
013 Designing for Print This module teaches learners to design for physical printing
014 Animation Design This module teaches learners how to create characters for games or illustrations in books
